Just across Leith Street from the Blue Mansion, a familiar name in Penang’s heritage landscape takes on a new expression. The Qing Suites occupies a restored 1904 annexe that once supported the daily life of Cheong Fatt Tze’s historic residence. Today, it has been reinterpreted as a standalone boutique hotel under the management of Cheong Fatt Tze Hotels & Residences, extending the brand’s hospitality portfolio while carving out a distinct identity of its own.
Rather than replicating the Mansion’s immersive heritage experience, The Qing Suites approaches history through continuity. The building’s original architectural language has been retained, while the interiors and guest experience are shaped around contemporary expectations of space, privacy and functionality. It is best understood not as an extension of the Mansion’s guest wing, but as a complementary address that broadens how travellers can engage with the Cheong Fatt Tze legacy.

The Suite Spot

The Qing Suites comprises thirteen suites ranging from 44–67 square metres, a generous proposition by George Town standards. The suites are offered in three expressions, each catering to a different style of stay.
The Signature Suites, located on the upper floor, look out toward the street and the surrounding neighbourhood. Their elevated position offers a sense of separation from the Qingactivity below, making them particularly appealing for guests who value privacy while still remaining connected to the city.

The Terrace Suites extend toward a rooftop garden overlooking the inner streets of George Town, while the Garden Suites introduce a different interpretation of privacy through enclosed courtyards framed by greenery. Across all categories, the interiors follow a consistent design language defined by clean lines, tactile materials, thoughtful lighting and custom furnishings created by local artisans.
The result is a set of suites that feel highly liveable rather than decorative. Layouts are practical without feeling austere, and the emphasis on space allows guests to settle in comfortably, whether for a short stay or a longer visit. Service mirrors this approach, prioritising ease and clarity over ceremony, and allowing the accommodation itself to take centre stage.
Southeast Asia’s First Heritage Hotel Spa

While the building’s lineage provides sense of space, Virtue TCM is what sets The Qing Suites apart. As the first heritage hotel spa in Southeast Asia to offer personalised treatments rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Virtue TCM positions wellness as a central pillar rather than an ancillary amenity.
Each guest journey begins with a consultation and pulse diagnosis, a foundational TCM practice used to assess internal balance, circulation and energy flow. This diagnostic step informs the selection of treatments, ensuring that therapies are not generic but shaped around individual needs and conditions.
Several signature experiences guide guests through more comprehensive journeys. The Mansion Escape: Nourish & Nurture combines facial Gua Sha and scalp acupressure with a full-body Qi massage, designed to address both physical tension and facial vitality. The Ancient Healing Retreat: Detox & Renew begins with herbal foot soaking before progressing into reflexology and meridian massage, focusing on circulation and internal balance. For guests seeking a more targeted intervention, the Qi Rebalance Therapy integrates Gua Sha, cupping and acupuncture to address specific areas of tension or imbalance.
Beyond the treatment rooms, Virtue TCM’s philosophy extends into the broader stay. Tea rituals at arrival, in-room bathing practices and sleep-oriented touches reflect the TCM principles of aligning jing, qi and shen, allowing wellness to be experienced as a continuous thread rather than a scheduled appointment. These elements reinforce the idea that Virtue TCM is not an add-on, but a framework through which the hotel’s approach to hospitality is expressed.
Dining Within the Estate

Dining for guests of The Qing Suites unfolds across both the annexe and the Blue Mansion, offering flexibility without redundancy. Within The Qing Suites, food and beverage services are reserved exclusively for residents. From breakfast through to all-day dining, the menu centres on comforting favourites, lighter contemporary dishes and familiar local flavours, designed to support the pace of the stay rather than compete for attention.
Guests may dine in The Qing Courtyard, spend time over afternoon tea in The Qing Lounge, explore Chinese teas at the Tranquility Tea Room, or unwind with a cocktails made with local or traditional Chinese spirits at The Qing Bar. In-suite dining is also available, allowing meals to be shaped around personal schedules rather than fixed service hours.

Across Leith Street, the Blue Mansion houses Indigo Restaurant and Mangga Café, both accessible to Qing Suites guests with the convenience of signing charges back to their rooms. The Mansion’s dining programme is curated by Consultant Executive Chef Su Kim Hock, who assumed the role earlier this year. Chef Kim Hock is best known for Au Jardin in Penang, which has held one Michelin star for four consecutive years from 2022 to 2025, alongside his restaurants The Teochew Club and Shokudo Niban on the island.
Beyond the Cheong Fatt Tze estate, the surrounding neighbourhood places guests at the centre of George Town’s layered food culture. Long-standing kopitiams, family-run eateries and contemporary restaurants are all within easy reach, allowing dining to become part of the travel experience rather than a fixed hotel routine.
