ABOUT NACRE.
(noun) /ˈneɪ.kər/
Southeast Asia has no shortage of lifestyle content. It has a shortage of lifestyle writing.
Nacre exists to close that gap. We are an independent publication covering dining, hotels, and travel across the region as lived experiences worth understanding. Our reviews are long-form and sensorial, written to put you inside the room, the meal, the moment. Our features are reported and considered. We do not publish filler.
Based in Kuala Lumpur, we cover Malaysia closely and Southeast Asia with growing reach—Singapore, Penang, Phnom Penh, and beyond. Our lens is not shaped by heritage wealth or habitual luxury. It is shaped by genuine curiosity and the belief that a place reveals itself to those who pay attention.
Nacre is not for everyone. It is for readers who want to know not just where to go, but what it actually feels like to be there.
The Editor
Bryan Yap

Bryan founded Nacre in 2024 with a single premise: that Southeast Asia’s dining and hospitality scene deserved writing as precise and immersive as the experiences themselves.
His background is an unlikely one. Trained in biomedical science and currently pursuing a PhD in immunology, Bryan brings a researcher’s instinct to editorial work: attentive to process, sceptical of surface, and inclined to ask why something works rather than simply whether it does. That same precision shapes every Nacre review: the detail that transforms a reader’s experience, the context that makes a meal or a stay make sense. He writes from first-hand access, covers honestly, and publishes independently.

Work With Us
Nacre welcomes press invites, editorial partnerships, and conversations with brands whose work aligns with our coverage. We cover fine dining, luxury and lifestyle hotels, travel across Southeast Asia, and the cultural moments that sit at the intersection of all three.
If you’d like to have Nacre experience and cover your property, restaurant, or event—or if you’re interested in a commercial partnership—we’d love to hear from you.
