Nacre Weekender: Hello August (1–3 Aug 2025)

COVER Moko & Omar of Mokonuts take over Fritz this weekend

The Nacre Weekender is our curated compass for what’s worth showing up for. We spotlight thoughtful, timely experiences across dining, culture, markets, and performance, whenever the weekend calls for it.

This weekend’s edition is all about flavour. From a rare Parisian pop-up to pork sandwiches with Portuguese wine, and a Sunday set spun over bottomless coffee, your table’s waiting.

2–3 Aug: Mokonuts Takes Over Fritz @ Fritz, Troika Sky Dining

One of the hardest reservations in Paris, Mokonuts is taking over KL’s own french bistro Fritz this weekend. Moko and Omar prepare the most soulful of foods, in the tiniest of kitchens, with the freshest of ingredients which earned them a spot on the 50 Best Discovery list, and a cult following among gastronomes.

The collaboration is a two-part affair: a romantic Saturday evening dinner, and a Mokonuts-led version of Fritz’s monthly Sunday Lunch. The menus differ, but are tied together with Mokonuts’ signature cookies at the end.

Reservations are required, reserve here.

1 Aug: Chef’s Table — An Evening in Reims @ Hokkaido Table

Instagram: @hokkaidotabletrx

Hokkaido Table launches its new Chef’s Table series with An Evening in Reims, an exclusive six-course dinner paired with pours from both Piper-Heidsieck and Charles Heidsieck. Led by Chef Edwin, this debut edition celebrates the harmony between seasonal produce and cellar expression—bringing together bright, seafood-forward dishes with six distinctive Champagnes.

Here’s the quiet kicker: the food menu mirrors Hokkaido Table’s current 7-course degustation, which is typically priced at RM488 without pairings. For the same price, this Chef’s Table offers the full experience with six glasses of Champagne, making it not just refined, but remarkably good value. A polished way to toast the start of August.

Reserve via Keepsake by GSC.

Who says morning coffee is not an exciting ritual? Botanica Deli will be one to convince you otherwise. Enter: The A.M. Spin. Ease into the weekend with endless pours of coffee, tea, and juices; freshly-baked pastries; and a laid-back brunch crowd—all amidst live beats by DJ Janiss Foong.

Spots are limited, reserve here.

2 Aug: Vinho Verde @ Olivia Deli

Curious about Portuguese wine? Start with Vinho Verde, a style known for being bright, breezy, and refreshingly unexpected. Hosted by VIANAU Wines, a Malaysian wine importer focused on Portuguese labels, this relaxed evening at Olivia Deli offers a flavourful introduction to one of Portugal’s most iconic wine regions from lightly fizzy and floral to crisp, dry, and a little funky.

The tasting also includes an authentic Bifana sandwich, featuring pork braised in garlic and wine, served warm in crusty bread. With DJ LZZY spinning from 4 to 7PM and golden hour pouring in, it’s the perfect way to ease into the weekend.

Tickets available here.

2–3 Aug: Tea Pairing Dinner @ TBC

Instead of the usual tasting menu with a wine pairing, experience a tea master’s touch at TBC Restaurant this weekend. Turn Shift Tea Bar’s Tea Master Lee meets Chef Patrick for an exclusive weekend pairing tea mocktails with TBC’s European flair.

The menu is a prix-fixe set of four dishes and four bevvies, that sees interesting pairings like tiger prawn, barley risotto and moqueca with a Curry Laksa-inspired glass, or the deep earthy combination of smoky Pu’er and Cherry Valley duck.

Reserve at tbc.restaurant.
